Ascap award winning songwriter, Abe Olman Scholarship winner and best singing waitress in New York, Nancy Magarill is a one of a kind artist, producer, composer and performer. Her record, “the Carousel” is an eclectic mix of poetry & pop. Produced by Daniel Mintseris (Alice Smith, Marianne Faithful, St. Vincent) and co-produced by Nancy, it’s an infusion of vocals, soaring strings, drums, beats and the usual twists and turns in from this no-holds-barred lyricist/composer.
Nancy has several indie releases under her name; “Down Below the Rodeo” is a collaboration with the Sirius String Quartet comprised of Dave Eggar (Evanescence, The Who, Michael Brecker, Josh Groban), Gregor Huebner (Richie Beirach, Randy Brecker, John Patitucci), Ron Lawrence (Kathleen Battle, Renee Fleming, John Zorn, Elliot Sharp) with special guest Lucia Micarelli (from HBO’s Treme, and has played with Josh Groban, Chris Botti and a host of others).
Nancy was “resident composer” for NYU Tisch School of the Art’s classical studio and has created many scores for a host of dance companies. Nancy also scored the award winning independent feature “Without” with cellist Dave Eggar and has scored a host of projects with Daniel Mintseris. She created the score for Gabrielle Lansner’s “Talking Heads, Frocks In Flight” performed at NYC’s River To River Festival and composed the music for Yung-Li Dance’s “Monkey on My Back” which premiered at Merce Cunningham studios last fall and I-Danse’s “Tellus” at NYC’s Dixon Place Theater and continues to perform on a regular basis.
She was co-host of the infamous monthly NYC event “the Panty Party”, host of “Anglophonics”, a weekly event held in St. Michel in Paris, as well as the creator of “Night of Independents” a bi-monthly showcase of indie artists also in Paris at the Lizard Lounge in the Marais and the monthly series, “Under the Covers” at one of NYC’s popular venues, the Living Room.
